Welcome to the Institute for East Asian Studies' World
Wide Web Homepage! The IEAS was established in
1978 by Dr. Kang In-duk, former Minister of
Unification, The institute has provided knowledges in various aspects of the Korean peninsula
from a Koreans' view. It has given unique perspectives, enabled readers to
understand the critical and delicate matters of the region through the eyes
of Korean. In the new millennium, the
IEAS will continue its effort to provide in-depth analysis concerning the
Korean peninsula. Major publications of IEAS are
the monthly journal "Kukdong-Munjae"
(Korean version of East Asian Review) and East Asian Review, quarterly. The
institution also publishes "Euhrinih Segae" (Children's World in Korean) for educating
Korean children to prepare them for the unified Korea in future. East Asian Review (EAR) was
first published in 1974 and was resumed in 1989 with the beginning of the
post-Cold War era. Since its first volume was published, EAR has conducted
in-depth studies on the issues related to the East Asia, especially on the
Korean peninsula and its surrounding powers. Currently, the institute is
pursuing a three-year project, “Inter-Korean Negotiations, 1972-2002: A
Comprehensive Historical Analysis,” funded by Korea Research Foundation.
